Economic Opportunities in South Columbus

This study was commissioned by South Side Thrive with funding from the Nationwide Children’s Foundation. The study focuses on economically challenged areas on the South Side of Columbus, Ohio. The study’s objectives were to improve the economic wellbeing of residents, enhance the talent pipeline of local employers, and shorten worker commutes. The study included a demographic and economic analysis of South Side residents and the key industries and employers in the area. Focus groups of CEOs and managers provided local insights – a key feature of all Regionomics studies of this type. The study highlighted relatively well-paying jobs available to workers with a high school diploma and possibly additional short-term training.

Fiscal Analysis of the City of Marysville and Its Proposed Development

This study was undertaken as part of Marysville, Ohio’s Comprehensive Plan Update in partnership with OHM Advisors. The first section provides a demographic and economic summary, including the characteristics of the city’s population, employment base, and housing stock. The second section analyzes the City of Marysville’s current and projected financial position by undertaking long-term projections of the city’s detailed revenue and expenditure accounts. Economic and Social Impacts of Ohio’s Community Action Agencies on the Statewide and Regional Economies of Ohio

Since first being authorized by federal legislation in 1964, nonprofit community action agencies (CAAs) have worked to alleviate poverty and provide resources to lower-income individuals in the communities within which they operate. This was the first attempt to measure the impacts of CAAs statewide and regionally. For organizations such as this, nonquantifiable impacts on lives and communities are especially important. Thus, these impacts are a primary focus. Data for the study were collected from surveys sent to the 47 CAAs across Ohio.

Analysis of the Costs and Benefits of Property Tax Incentives

This study was commissioned by the City Council of Columbus, Ohio, and the Franklin County Auditor to provide a framework for evaluating the benefits and costs of property tax abatements and tax incentive financing districts and an honest assessment of the positive and negative aspects of these arrangements. While they can be helpful in attracting and retaining jobs and investment, there is no way to be certain that they are truly necessary in specific cases. The study also argued that incentive policies of nearby communities are far more impactful than those of distant regions.
